 The historic centre of Cracow, the former capital of Poland, is situated at the foot of the
Royal Wawel Castle with its Gothic cathedral where the kings of Poland were buried.
The Main Market Square is the largest medieval town square in Europe. Further evidence
of the town's fascinating history is provided by the remnants of the 14th-century
fortifications and the medieval site of Kazimierz with its ancient synagogues, Jagellonian
University, the first in Poland, with its famous Collegium Maius. Millions of tourist visiting
Krakow every year not only admire the city with its historical monuments but also take
